The Beginnings of Aid In Action (AIA)
In the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, while serving those injured, a relationship with Mr. Exil was created. He lost his home, and school building as a result of this horrific disaster. Aid in Action decided to stand in the gap and help him and his family once again have a home and a school for the local children in Citi De Repatriates. This area outside of Port au Prince is considered one of the most impoverished areas and is located adjacent to Citi Sole, the renowned slum area.
Aid in Action (Aid in Haiti) was established to help rebuild, provide financially for children’s education and the education of traditional birth attendants (TBA) in Haiti. 70% of babies born in Haiti are assisted by TBA’s. Lisa Buxman was living and working as a midwife in Haiti at the time of the earthquake, so it was a natural act to help educate and provide the needed equipment to the TBA’s so they could give safe care to the many women they serve.
Over the past nine years, AIA has continued to make biannual trips to Haiti, raise funds to provide education to an average of 150 children each year. These children would not be in school if AIA did not pay the teachers wages, an impossible financial burden for so many of the children’s families. We have escorted numerous teams of volunteers to help assist with construction, education, community survey service, and agricultural endeavors…..
We are so grateful for those in Haiti who make this work a success, without them and the beautiful relationships established with AIA could not continue to function successfully.
